Dear Friends,

I always look forward to Vail Pride Day.  It is a great time to reconnect with people we don't see very often and
see the great things that Vail students and school staffs as well as community organizations are doing.

The Centennial Tent, co-hosted by the Vail Preservation Society and the Vail Community Action Board,
will be full of great hands-on activities and live entertainment "Under the Big Top". The entire committee
has been working hard to make sure that it  will be a great addition to the day.

The Centennial Committee needs your help.

1 hour, 4 hours, one day or two-we need you!

Can you greet guests with a smile? Set up and take down chairs and tables? Hand out programs, help color
Vail paperdolls with kids, decorate the tent? Dress up for the occasion (or not-not manditory :) in western or historical
costume (1870s thru 1950s)? Help with the Territorial Encampment-show them how it was done in the "old days"
demonstrate washing clothes on a wash-board, use clothes pins, supervise the "dress-up" trunk, show how
food was transported and stored?  Can you help record community stories with a digital recorder? Serve Birthday cake?
Help guest addthemselves to the giant timeline? Willing to help unpack and repack for storage at the end of the event?
Give presenters at tables a break to get a bite to eat, use the restroom? Be in charge of the guest book or 1st aide kit?

If you said yes to any of these (and many more tasks not listed ) WE NEED YOU!

Friday, February 17, 2012  9:00-5:00 setting up, decorating, helping tablers get their things in place and checking in.
Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012    8:00-6:30  final set-up, check in, and "running the show", then break-down, clean-up, re-packing
supplies (we save and re-use most of our supplies and decorations) and getting back to
                                          destination of origin.

Email us at vailpreservationsociety@gmail.com or call J.J. at 419-4428 and tell us
when you are available and if you have a preference for task.

Thank you!  Together we will make great things happen in the Centennial Tent at Vail Pride Day.

We look forward to hearing from you !

Dear Friends,

I hope you are all enjoying the wonderful weather!  I did see my first snake of the season a couple of days ago.

We have lots of good news, in addition to the National Register listing for the Old Vail Post Office, we have once again been funded by the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation! Their support is very important to our Voices of Vail project, as is all of the community support throughout the year to our efforts to restore the Old Vail Post Office.

Happy Trails,

JJ

The Arizona and Southwest Model Railroad Society and Tucson  NTRAK and the Vail Preservation Society

Proudly announce their partnership.

The community efforts to restore the last territorial era building on Vail’s original town site, the Old Vail Post Office, will be strengthened by this partnership. The Old Vail Post Office is an officially designated Arizona Centennial project. Efforts center around the restoration of the Old Vail Post Office and preserving the stories of our community through the recording of oral histories.

We believe that the entire greater Vail community will benefit through our joint efforts to preserve the heritage of our little Town Between the Tracks.  Join us and be part of our community historic preservation alliance built on the compelling heritage left for us by the railroading, homesteading, and ranching families that built a life in Vail,  Arizona Territory.

Looking Forward to Arizona’s 2012 Centennial Through Vail’s Railroad Roots.
